Justin Tatman - Profile

Justin Tatman is a Certified and Licensed Athletic Trainer who joined VUMC in 2023. He grew up in Pittsburgh PA playing soccer and a variety of other sports before attending Otterbein University in Columbus OH for his Athletic Training degree. Justin completed his master's degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he researched shoulder ROM characteristics and its impact on baseball and softball players.

Justin has over 18 years of work experience as a certified athletic trainer across a multitude of settings including professional sports (NFL), NCAA division 1 and 3 athletics, high school, and clinical orthopedic practices. Over the last 8 years, Justin has focused his practice on the clinical setting where he works directly with the orthopedic medical team to maximize patient satisfaction and provider efficiency. Prior to joining VUMC, Justin worked at Washington University in St. Louis, MO where he developed a unique skill set specific to orthopedics that not many athletic trainers possess, including experience in the operating room alongside the orthopedic team. Given his depth of experience and knowledge in orthopedic clinical athletic training, Justin is currently leading the development of an orthopedic specialty athletic training residency at VUMC that is targeted to start in 2026 and seeking national accreditation through the CAATE.
